The question of possible military action by Israel against Egypt's water resources is hypothetical and highly speculative, however, it is frequently discussed in the context of regional security and the struggle for water resources. Analyzing potential scenarios, despite their low probability, allows for an understanding of the vulnerabilities of infrastructure and the extent of interdependence among countries in the region. It should be emphasized that, at present, relations between Israel and Egypt are peaceful and governed by a peace treaty, making any military action highly unlikely.

Geopolitical Context: Water as a Weapon

Water in the Middle East has always been a strategic resource. For Egypt, the Nile River is the main source of water, providing over ninety percent of the country's needs. Egypt traditionally views any actions threatening its water supply as a threat to national security. Israel, in turn, also faces water scarcity and actively invests in desalination and wastewater treatment technologies. Hypothetically, military methods could include direct strikes on hydrological facilities as well as indirect actions aimed at blocking or polluting water sources.

Direct Strikes on Hydrological Infrastructure

The most obvious military method is striking hydrological facilities within Egypt itself. This could involve the destruction of dams and embankments on the Nile, the destruction of pumping stations and irrigation canal systems. Such actions could lead to catastrophic reductions in water levels in the river, disruption of agricultural land, and massive drinking water shortages. However, even hypothetically, such a scenario is unlikely due to the massive humanitarian consequences and international condemnation. Moreover, modern anti-aircraft systems make such strikes difficult to implement.

Attacks on the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam

Another, more complex scenario, involves affecting Egypt's water resources indirectly through a strike on the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) on the Blue Nile. Ethiopia, which is building this dam, has long been at the center of a water conflict with Egypt and Sudan. Israel, with close ties to Ethiopia, could hypothetically use this influence or even strike the dam to limit the flow of water into the Nile. Destruction of the dam would lead to an immediate release of a massive volume of water, which could on one hand cause catastrophic flooding in Sudan and Egypt, and on the other hand, lead to subsequent long-term reductions in flow and disruptions in water supply. However, such a scenario would be an act of war against Ethiopia and would have significant international consequences.

Biological or Chemical Contamination of Water Sources

A more covert but no less destructive method is the contamination of Nile water with biological or chemical agents. This could render the water unsuitable for drinking and agricultural use for an extended period. Such actions are difficult to trace and prove, however, they constitute a war crime and could be viewed as an act of aggression against the entire Egyptian population. This scenario also poses a high risk to Israel itself, as the spread of contamination could affect its water resources.

Blocking or Diverting Water Flows

Theoretically possible is a scenario in which Israel, acting through its allies or proxy forces, attempts to block or divert some of the Nile's tributaries located in other states (such as Sudan or South Sudan). This could be accomplished through the construction of small dams or changing riverbeds. However, this method is extremely complex logistically and requires a long time to implement. Moreover, it would be quickly detected and counteracted by the international community.

Cyberattacks on Water Supply Management Systems

In today's world, military methods go beyond physical impact. Cyberattacks on Egypt's water supply management systems could disrupt the operation of pumping stations, open dam gates, or manipulate water quality data. Such actions could lead to technological disasters or disruptions in water supply. Cyberwarfare is less risky in terms of direct confrontation, but requires a high level of technical training and intelligence.

Political and International Context

It should be emphasized that all the described scenarios are hypothetical and unlikely. Israel and Egypt maintain peaceful relations, and international law strictly prohibits any actions aimed at denying civilian populations access to water. Moreover, Egypt has a powerful military and allied relations with several countries, making any direct aggression extremely dangerous for Israel. Thus, the question of military deprivation of Egypt's water remains more of an academic discussion than a real political practice.
